Thank you so much for these perspectives - they're incredibly valuable, especially your point about Hinduism not being doctrinal in the ways the branches of Christianity can be. It's also a relief to know that a character like mine eating non-beef options in a burger restaurant or hosting a sleepover with solely female friends wouldn't necessarily beggar belief (especially if I put thought and research into making her family feel specific). I have a good working idea of the kind of family dynamic my character exists in, and it's encouraging to know that's a good start.
